While new to British roads, Geely is no newcomer to the global automotive industry. Parent company Zhejiang Geely Holding Group owns or has strategic stakes in Volvo Cars, Polestar, Lotus, Smart, Proton and Zeekr, giving the brand global reach across design and engineering.
Geely Auto UK’s customer package is reinforced through trusted UK partnerships and memberships: The brand has joined The Motor Ombudsman, which mandates expected levels of service, instilling consumer confidence. Finance and leasing are supported by CA Auto Finance UK, and Octopus Energy delivers charging and tariff support for home and public use.
At the heart of the Starray EM-i is Geely’s Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture (GEA) – a sophisticated, multi-energy platform developed over five years and engineered with an aim to meet the complex demands of future mobility. Already proven on the Geely EX5, GEA is a vehicle architecture that combines hardware, electronic systems, cloud connectivity and artificial intelligence into a single foundation. It has also been designed from the outset to support electric, plug-in hybrid, and range-extender powertrains for applications worldwide, across a number of different vehicle segments and body styles.
More than just a structural base, GEA serves as the central nervous system of the Starray EM-i. It manages everything from energy efficiency to over-the-air software updates and smart cabin features to enable integration between the car’s mechanical structure and its digital intelligence. An integral part of GEA is the GEEA 3.0 electronic & electrical architecture, which features a powerful central controller which is connected to a high-speed computer network based on an Ethernet backbone. Thanks to over-the-air software updates, existing features and functions will continue to evolve and improve over time, and new ones can be offered.
Designed by a global team based out of the Geely Innovation Design Center in Milan, Italy, the Geely Starray EM-i’s design reflects Geely’s focus on elegant simplicity over visual noise. The ultra-slim LED headlights are seamlessly integrated within the smoothly sculpted front end, and create a sense of advanced technology, which can be amplified by an optional slender LED front light bar. The side profile features nine discreet design elements that create an interplay of light and shadow, enhancing the overall aesthetic. Short front and rear overhangs combine with the confident, upright stance and purposeful proportions to project the strong presence expected from an SUV.
Aerodynamic efficiency was also a guiding principle of the design and was honed through more than 150 hours of wind tunnel testing. The result is a drag coefficient of just 0.288Cd.
The bright, spacious cabin has been created with day-to-day family life in mind – but without sacrificing comfort or style. The GEA structure that underpins the Geely Starray EM-i enables the wheels to be pushed out to the corners and creates more room for the battery pack under the floor. The result is exceptional space for all five occupants and no compromise to luggage compartment volume, which is a generous 528-litres (2,065-litres with the rear seats folded). The tailgate aperture is 1,122mm wide, aiming to make it easy to load large objects into the vehicle, and a power tailgate is standard on Max and Ultra trims.
Aiming to deliver driver and passenger comfort on even the longest journeys, the front seats comprise nine individual layers, including slow-rebound foam cushioning. Heating and ventilation functions (offered in Max and Ultra trims) offer even greater luxury.
A 256-colour ambient lighting system, panoramic sunroof (offered in Max and Ultra trims) and outstanding levels of refinement create an immersive lounge-like quality that transcends the Starray EM-i’s price point – all enhanced by soft-touch finishes throughout.
Extensive in-cabin storage is another of the Starray EM-i’s lifestyle-focused features, with more than 30 different places to stow bags, phones, tablets, and personal belongings.
The Starray EM-i’s digital cockpit is designed around the speed and power of an ARM processor. Together with the Flyme Auto operating system and an easy-to-use HMI design, the user experience is simple and intuitive.
The 15.4-inch HD touchscreen offers exceptionally crisp graphics and super-fast responses to user inputs. Key driving information is shown in the 10.2-inch HD driver display, which is augmented on Max and Ultra models by a 13.8-inch head-up display which assists drivers to keep hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. An AI-driven intelligent voice assistant with more than 200 commands across all trims enables drivers to change settings in the climate control, navigation, infotainment, and even open and close the panoramic sunroof.
Online navigation is standard for the first two years, after which there is a charge, and aims to ensure that maps are up to date and assisting drivers to find charge points whilst on their journey. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard too, which together with the Wi-Fi hotspot, assists with media streaming, subject to network coverage. A 15W wireless charging pad (Max and Ultra trims) enables customers to charge their phone and an alert shown in the touchscreen will alert them if they forget to take their phone with them.
Audio gets the premium treatment too. The 1,000W Flyme Sound intelligent audio system (Max and Ultra trims) features 16 speakers, including headrest-mounted drivers for immersive or private listening with multiple sound modes, from Opera Hall to Studio, adapt to mood, tastes and media.
Just like its Geely EX5 stablemate, the Starray EM-i has been awarded the maximum five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, including scores of 90% for adult occupant protection, and 86% for vulnerable road users.
The body structure uses an array of materials that aim to deliver occupant crash protection, reinforcing the A- and B-pillars, and complemented by an array of seven airbags.
The battery pack is joined to the body structure with 13 mounting points, while a separate plate is fitted 10mm beneath the pack aiming to reduce damage from impacts or grounding. Should the vehicle be involved in a collision, the battery’s control system can shut off the high-voltage power in just 5 milliseconds.
A wide range of advanced driver assistance (ADAS) systems is standard across all Starray EM-i trim levels, including Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keeping and Emergency Lane Assist (LKA/ELKA), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Door Open Warning (DOW), Traffic Sign Information (TSI), and a 360° camera system. These help to put occupant and road user wellbeing at the front and centre of the Starray EM-i’s design philosophy and execution.
Harnessing the world-class engineering resources and technologies within the global Geely Group, the Starray EM-i features a sophisticated super hybrid powertrain that combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a powerful electric motor, compact automatic transmission, and choice of two Lithium Iron Phosphate battery packs. With the ability to switch between hybrid, petrol, or full electric mode, the Starray EM-i offers an intelligent, versatile driving experience.
The petrol engine develops 73kW and 125Nm torque, and was designed from the outset to deliver outstanding fuel economy. Features that contribute to this include inherently low levels of friction, a high tumble ratio combustion process, an electronically-controlled water pump, and variable displacement oil pump. And when matched to the powerful, compact electric motor, the powertrain will produce 160kW and 262Nm.
The Lithium Iron Phosphate battery packs benefit from a cell chemistry that is designed to achieve improved cost-efficiency because it does not feature rare and expensive materials such as Nickel or Cobalt, and also offers impressive robustness and durability. With safety in mind, the packs were developed using more than 100 extreme tests, including crash tests, 2-metre drop tests, immersion in salt water, and being subjected to 700°C temperatures.
Driving the front wheels through a 1DHT transmission, the plug-in hybrid system delivers a combined maximum output of 193kW and 262Nm, enabling acceleration from 0-62mph in only 8.0 seconds. The 18.4kWh battery models return fuel consumption and emissions figures from only 2.4L/100km and 54g/km CO2 and just 1.4L/100km and 32g/km CO2 for 29.8kWh models1,2.
Geely Auto’s parent Geely Holding has invested in its own battery material recovery operations. Recovery rates exceed 90% for lithium, nickel, and cobalt. The company is committed to Carbon-neutral manufacturing by 2040 and full renewable energy sourcing by 2030 in core facilities.
*1,2 The stated range, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are based on the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP). Actual range may vary depending on driving style, road conditions, vehicle load, use of climate control and other factors. Figures are provided for comparison purposes only and may not reflect real-world driving results.
Should customers need to top-up the battery on longer trips, 30kW DC fast charging enables those with the 18.4kwh battery to be replenished from 30-80% in just 20 minutes3, or only as little as 16 minutes for the larger 29.8kWh battery, which benefit from 60kW DC capability3. The battery pack’s thermal management system is designed to ensure that charging speeds remain high even in very hot or very cold weather conditions.
Using a 7kW AC wallbox, such as the dual-branded smart home chargers from Geely Auto UK’s partner Andersen EV, 25-100% takes only 34 hours for 18.4kWh models, and 4.6 hours for 29.8kWh models. The Andersen EV unit features a stylish slimline design, comes with a seven-year warranty, and is made in the UK.
Customers can control the charging process through the vehicle’s touchscreen or using the Geely Remote Control App. This enables customers to schedule timed charging by specifying a start and stop time – perfect for matching to special EV energy tariffs and lower-cost off-peak electricity. Customers can also use the app to precondition the cabin to reach an ideal temperature before their journey begins. Using mains electricity to do this while the vehicle is plugged-in is more efficient than drawing power from the battery, maximising comfort and preserving vehicle range.
All models also benefit from the versatility of vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) power. Rated at 6.6kW, the V2L capability enables customers to charge e-bikes or plug in devices such as camp stoves, coffee machines and fridges, making it a mobile power source that supports outdoor adventure and enabling customers to make the most of electric mobility. Should customers wish to recharge another NEV, the 6.6kW V2L function makes this possible.

Geely Auto UK worked with the Lotus engineering team, utilising the firm’s expertise in chassis and dynamics assessment, to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the Starray EM-i, and the vehicle has undergone subjective and objective assessments by the Lotus engineering team of dynamics experts on UK roads, the Lotus test track, and a state-of-the-art multi-post rig.
Recognising that total cost of ownership is a key element of e-mobility for private and business owners alike, the Geely Starray EM-i service intervals are set at 12 months or 10,000 miles, and it comes with a base warranty of eight years or 125,000 miles, while the battery is supplied with an eight-year /125,00-mile warranty.
As the second model to launch, the Geely Starray EM-i represents the next step of the brand’s journey in the UK, and it certainly won’t be the last. Consumer trust in electrification is solidifying as range, charging access, and residual value perceptions improve. Geely Auto views this as an inflection point, where PHEVs and EVs move from early adoption to mainstream ownership. The Geely Starray EM-i has been engineered with these shifts in mind, combining everyday usability, fast charging with high specification levels.
Geely Auto UK is building a long-term, customer-focused presence with real momentum behind it. The retailer network, already numbers 55 dealerships, has been designed with expansion in mind to deliver outstanding levels of customer service and convenience and aftersales care. More models are set to follow, covering a broad range of sizes and vehicle segments – each one providing electric mobility that is safe, spacious, smart, and genuinely attainable.
